The existing school building at St Michael’s Choir School is being significantly rebuilt, whilst retaining the existing building’s façade and heritage features. The school will provide teaching, learning, exercise, rehearsal and performance facilities for 300 students. Liturgical music will remain central to St Michael’s mission; however the new recording studio and digital music facilities will diversify their offerings to students and keep up with trends in contemporary music and technology.

Sound Space Vision are collaborating with KPMB and +VG architects on all spaces for musical practice and performance. This includes the enlarged and flexible auditorium for choral recitals and rehearsals. It will feature a new organ, operable physical acoustical finishes and a movable floor for flat and raked seating configurations and carefully defined geometry and finishes. The choral classrooms will have clear and balanced acoustics in terms of both reverberation and loudness, and the studio will feature the kind of tight and controlled sound to be expected of such a facility within an institution of this calibre.
