Designed in 1847 in a neo-classical style to stage meetings, concerts, lectures and other attractions, St. George’s Hall officially opened in 1853 and occupies a prominent corner site in the city centre. Now it hosts a variety of musical tastes from bhangra to brass bands, from rock and pop concerts to children’s shows and community productions. The concert hall needs to maintain its reputation of excellent acoustics while embracing the diversification of productions required for the 21st century. AMPC undertook a three-dimensional sightline and acoustics study to increase the quality of experience and thus box office revenues for all events.
